For Richie Lee, it is a dream come true! The talented young
singer/musician from Des Moines, Iowa is making a name for himself
performing Buddy Holly’s music at ‘50s style dances and clubs.
Richie’s four piece band’s ability to get the crowd excited can be
traced to his drive to stay true to the original songs. He even plays
the same guitar his favorite artist Buddy Holly played: a 1955 Fender
Stratocaster.
Richie Lee, now 20 years old, was singing almost before he could talk.
At the age of 7 he won a Buddy Holly look alike lip sync contest, and
ever since he has modeled himself and his career after Holly. When he
first heard Buddy Holly’s music he was instantly inspired. He has played
with many Iowa Rock n’ Roll bands.
By the age of 16 he had played 14 different ballrooms and had been
recognized nationally, traveling as far as Boston to play several shows
with the Drifters and more recently to Memphis for an Elvis Tribute.
The music of the 1950’s is a huge part of Richie’s life. Besides Buddy
Holly and Richie Valens, he also pays tribute to Elvis Presley, Eddie
Cochran, Ricky Nelson, Roy Orbison , Chuck Berry and others.
He was recently inducted into the Iowa Music Association – Hall of
Fame...the youngest inductee ever.
